New date for Jennings bill

20/ 9/2007

THE tournament due to take place last Saturday - featuring some of the hottest prospects in British boxing - was put back two weeks after WBU welterweight champion Michael Jennings suffered a virus and had to pull out.

The new date is Friday 28 September at the Preston Guild Hall where Jennings will top a very attractive bill which includes his club-mates Thomas McDonagh, Reece Roberts, Scott Quigg, China Clark, Paul Di Silva and four other local fighters.

Jennings needs this contest against an East European fighter as preparation for his world title defence against Russ Minter in December.

"Because of the huge amount of interest in Preston for Jennings to perform in front of his fans, and being assured the antibiotics Michael was taking to clear the virus would work, we decided to postpone the tournament a fortnight" said promoter Wally Dixon.

"I was gutted when I came with this chest infection," added Jennings, "I had sold all the ringside seats and the hall would have been sold out. There is no way I could shake it off in time for Saturday, but I will be fit and ready for the new date."
