Signs point to a new campaign

DARTS: A SURE sign that things are beginning to stir on the local darts scene is the fact that the annual general meeting of the Middleton Men's Thursday League will be held next Wednesday evening at the Oddfellows Arms.

All teams need to be represented, and the same applies for the first monthly meeting which will be held a week later.

The season starts on 6 September, and new teams are invited to apply to Ian Slattery who can be contacted on 07790 428883.

Teams are also invited to join the Middleton Men's Monday League whose secretary Eugene Goan can be contacted on 07817 567602.

The league's presentation night will be at the Gardeners Arns, Sandy Lane, on 25 August.

The annual general meeting will be at the Lancashire Fold on Wednesday 29 August.

It is hoped to start the season with a charity night on Monday 10 September, but this has still to be confirmed.

Middleton Junction based Railway and Linnet have a big night next Tuesday when they take on the Washbrook Tavern (Chadderton) team in a semi-final of the Failsworth Premier Long-End League's knockout.

It represents their last chance of silverware this summer as they were beaten 6-1 by title rivals Baldy Bobs last week and now trail the leaders by four points.
