Woodside duo pick up pairs trophy

DARTS: THE Woodside Working Men's Social Club's Joe Heywood and Frank Willis became the Middleton Men's Thursday League pairs champions last week when they got the better of Dave Skelton and Roy Keefe of Higher Blackley Conservative Club 3-1 in the final.
They had beaten White Horse duo Billy Lucas and Hughie Kilpatrick in the quarter-finals, then enjoyed a 2-0 win in the semis over Railway and Linnet's Ian Sutton and Phil Davey.
The Railway and Linnet men had caused the shock of the night in knocking out the favourites, Grove's Mark Holden and Dario Padron.
Skelton and Keefe's path to the final came via victories over Ian Slattery and Billy Corry of the Woodside Club, coming from behind to do so, and, in the semi-finals, dave Lowe and Paul Hennifer from the Cotton Tree. The other beaten quarter-finalists were Paul Russon and Phil Stones from the Woodside.
The Friendship added the first division knockout title to their league championship when they defeated the Jolly Carter in the Middleton Ladies League final on Monday night.
