Con Club top table for five minutes

MIDDLETON Conservative Club were top of the table for five minutes at the end of their Middleton Men's Thursday League campaign.

Then the result came through that Grove (Blackley) had beaten Higher Blackley Con Club 5-1 and a set to win the championship by three points.

Con Club had whitewashed Oddfellows 7-0.

In third place, six points behind Con Club, are Woodside.

The gallon title went to Duke of Wellington who had 34 points, two more than Cotton Tree and Grove.

Least darts (11) was struck by two players - Andy Slattery (Woodside) and Billy Keenan (Cotton Tree).

The Knockout Cup semi-finals and final will be played tonight at the Victoria. Woodside meet Higher Blackley Con Club and Grove face Railway and Linnet.

Teams should be at the venue by 8pm.

Rhodes hot-shot Mark Holden showed he is getting back to his best form when he reached the last 32 of the Blue Square UK Open at the Reebok, Bolton.

He beat Swindon's Mark Cox then got the better of Andy Jenkins, one of the world's top players, before falling to Wolverhampton ace Wayne Jones.
