STEVE Round made it through to his third consecutive final in the Middleton Men's Monday League individual knockout.

He then went one better than last year by beating Carter's Bob Brown 3.5-1.5 in a high quality encounter.

Round beat Brian Rattigan (Gardeners, Grimshaw Lane) in his semi-final. Brown beat Steve Donohue (Gardeners, Sandy Lane) to reach the final.

Donohue and Billy Cook reached the final of the pairs contest but then went down 3-1 to team-mates Tommy Traynor and John Fairbrother.

Another pair from the Sandy Lane pub - Pete Delloway and Steve Copeland reached the semi-finals, as did Eugene Goan and Arthur Jones from the Joiners.

Closest matches in the Middleton Men's Thursday League last week saw Victoria beat Oddfellows 4-3. Woodside got the better of Railway and Linnet 4.5-2.5, but Railway picked up the gallon points.

Railway and Linnet stayed two points behind the leaders in the Failsworth Premier Log-End League thanks to a 5-2 win over Moston Men's Club.
