Second half goals see Youth to final victory

26/ 4/2007

MANCHESTER Youth under 16s lifted the County Cup last Sunday when they beat Poynton Juniors in the final played at the Manchester County FA ground

Poynton had the first chance when a slip at the back let in Niall Lee, but he blazed his shot high and wide.

Manchester then had a great chance when a Barry Davies cross from the right found Ismet Akoya who headed over.

The first half finished with Manchester in the ascendancy but the game scoreless.

The deadlock was broken when a long throw-in from Curt Williams was flicked on by Jamie Mack and Sam Freakes swivelled to lash the ball home.

This seemed to knock Poynton's confidence and Akoya made it 2-0 after Freakes had rounded his marker and delivered a peach of a cross.

Mark Reeves claimed the third for Manchester when he was first to the rebound after a shot from Akoya had been saved.
