Boys make their class tell in the wind

22/ 3/2007

MIDDLETON Boys under 10s made their class tell when they travelled to play Parkwyddn in a Salford League match.

A blustery wind was against them in the first half, but they stroked the ball about magnificently, and the defensive pairing of John Ezard and Sam Laycock were superb in stopping their opponents from cashing in on wind advantage.

Middleton created most of the chances in the first half and went close through Simon Riley, Corey Goodey and Oliver Cleworth.

Middleton were dominant in the second spell, and the deadlock was broken midway through the half when Goodey went on a long run and played the ball into the path of Simon Riley who smashed it home.

Oliver Cleworth had a freekick tipped over the bar, but Middleton bagged a deserved second goal. Parkwyddn failed to clear a corner and Riley pounced to fire hard and low into a bottom corner.

Player of the match Riley was denied a hat-trick when his shot was brilliantly saved.
