Red letter day for Boys

MIDDLETON Boys under eights Red went clear at the top of the table with a 1-0 win over Flixton Falcons.

Flixton played some excellent passing football and matched Boys in most areas of the pitch, but in the opening seconds of the second half Daniel Cromton charged through and fired home a superb solo goal.

Kaiden Nolan had a solid game in defence, supported well by Josh Hardy.

Middleton have now clocked up 26 goals in the league and conceded only two.

Player of the match was Daniel Cromton.

• BOYS under 12s entertained Moston Juniors in a quarter-final of the County Cup on Sunday afternoon.

This was destined to be a classic, with both teams top of thier respective leagues.

Middleton went a goal up with a cool finish from Alex Gregory, but it wasn't long before Moston equalised.

Boys regained the lead with a goal from Connor Hughes.

Moston again pulled back, and the game was turninig into a superb spectical.

In the second half Middleton managed to edge thier way ahead once more when Myers Nield fired home from close range. But Moston, who had a good 10-minute spell, equalised.

Boys thought they had secured the win when they went 4-3 up through Danny Ferris, but Moston made it 4-4 with seconds to go.

Extra time was a tense scrappy affair. In the final seconds Jack Cottrill blasted the ball into a bottom corner of the Moston net.

After the match Middleton were all smiles as they learned they had also clinched the City of Salford League title.
