MIDDLETON Conservative Club, leaders in the race for the Middleton Men's Thursday League title, lost last week for only the second time in 14 matches.
They were beaten 4-3 by Duke of Wellington (Blackley), but still hold a three and a half points advantage over Grove who didn't have a match.
Con Club's Joe Royle hit the best leg of the week, a 17-darter.
Higher Blackley Con Club are in third place. They repeated the 5-2 win over Wilton which they enjoyed on the opening night of the campaign in October.
Lancashire Fold are 14 points adrift at the foot of the table. They were beaten 6-1 by Railway and Linnet.
The regular season finished, teams in the Middleton Ladies League started a nine-week competition in which they play each other only once.
Division One champions Friendship A opened with a 4-3 win over Woodside, the team they had beaten a week earlier to lift the title.
Division Two champions Nook also won by the odd game in seven. They got the better of Friendship B who were the only team to have beaten them during the main season.
Old David surprised Hebers WMC A, beating them 5-2. That was also the score by which Kenyon overcame Nowster.
