LEE Morgan.
Kick fighter is new GB champion
25/ 1/2007
LEE Morgan became a British professional kickboxing champion last Friday night.
He captured the 67k and under title in Newcastle when he beat Marty "Mad Dog" Wilson.
It was a tremendous victory over a fighter who holds three world titles in different divisions.
Morgan, who is now managed by national coach Cris Janson-Piers, said: "My opponent was fighting in front of his home crowd, and I had one fan in the arena - my fiancee.
"I had trained as hard as ever for the fight, and I felt great, but it was the knockdown in the seventh and final round which convinced me of victory.
"I can now look forward to being selected for this year's world championships."
Selection is not a pipe dream, as coach Janson-Piers said: "Lee is one of the best up-and-coming fighters in the country."
