I can still be world champion vows defeated Meager
14/12/2006
LEE Meager has vowed to learn from his mistakes on Friday night and go on to fulfil his world title dream.
The Salford-born boxer lost his British Lightweight title to Norwich's Jonathan Thaxton following a comprehensive points defeat.
Meager lived up to his 'Macho Man' nickname by standing up to a succession of meaty blows. But he admits that he disappointed on the night and would love the chance to put things right in the form of a rematch.
Meager, aged 28, said: "Thaxton brought his A game and I didn't. I just didn't have my usual sharpness. I was originally supposed to fight in October and with the long wait I ended up going a bit stale in training.
"I can box a lot better than I did on Friday and I will prove that if I get the chance to fight Thaxton again.
"I know that I've got the better of him, despite Friday night's result. I would love a rematch but I think that he wants a shot at something else now.
"I will learn from the mistakes that I made on Friday and I'll come back stronger than ever.
"I know I've got to work on my defence as it wasn't good enough on Friday. But I've always believed I can be a world champion and that hasn't changed. I can go all of the way in this sport."
