Joiners leap into lead

JOINERS went to the top of the Middleton Men's Monday League last week thanks to a 5-2 win over rivals Gardeners Arms.

Woodman lost for only the second time this season. They went down 4-3 to Railway and Linnet.

Only one point covers the top three in the darts table, and only two cover the top five in the crib competition.

Woodman and Joiners both have 22 points, with Gardeners (Grimshaw Lane), Carters and Old Cock on 20.

Carters and Old Cock Inn fought out a 3-3 and a set tie on the oche, but Carters won 2-1 on the card table.

The Gallon contest in the Middleton Thursday League produced two firsts last week.

Oddfellows won for the first time in nine attempts when they beat Wilton, while Grove lost for the first time this season when they encountered Duke of Wellington.

Cotton Tree picked up their eighth win, against Railway and Linnet, and now lead that particular title race by two points from Grove.

The main contest is led by Higher Blackley Con Club who were 5-2 winners over Boarshaw WMC. Grove are three points behind the toppers with a match in hand.

Middleton Con Club and Cotton Tree are a further five points away in joint third spot.

Collette McCormick hit a 21-dart leg of 501, the best so far in the Middleton Ladies League, but her Hebers A team lost 4-3 to Division Two title rivals Nook.

Nowster beat Friendship B to record their second win of the season.

Apple and Pear took advantage of Friendship A not having a match and climbed above them in the table by beating Hebers B.
