Boys tame the Lions

14/12/2006

MIDDLETON Boys under 10s overcame cold and wet conditions to beat Swinton Lions 3-0.

The deadlock was broken after a scrappy first 10 minutes. A throw from John Ezard was collected by Luke Anderson. He laid the ball back to Ezard whose killer ball found Corey Goodey for him to beat the keeper.

Middleton almost extended their lead when a shot from Ezard came back off the bar and Anderson chested the rebound wide.

But only a brilliant save by Daniel Ducie prevented Swinton from equalising.

Middleton found it hard to break down a stubborn Swinton defence in the second half until a throw-in into the box was handled and Goodey knocked home the penalty.

Swinton hardly threatened the Middleton goal due to good defending by Sam Laycock and Marcel McPherson.

Late in the game Middleton added a third following the best move of the match.

Bradley Ashton, Corey Goodey and Simon Riley were involved in the build-up which led to Oliver Cleworth smashing the ball home.

Luke Anderson was named as player of the match by the referee.
