Round The Boards

MIDDLETON Conservative Club lost top spot in the Middleton Men's Thursday League when they were beaten 5-2 by Grove (Blackley) who claimed their seventh success in as many matches.

A 6-0 and a set victory over White House took Higher Blackley Con Club to the head of affairs.

Lancashire Fold at last had something to celebrate as they won for the first time in seven matches. They beat Tonge Bowling Club 4-3.

Best leg of the week came from Duke of Wellington's Ambrose Taylor, but his 13-darter couldn't stop his team from losing 4-3 to Woodside. Jimmy Gill hit a 17-darter for the winners.

All matches scheduled to be played in the Middleton Men's Monday League were called off as a mark of respect for the popular Gardeners Arms (Sandy Lane) skipper Paul Anderson who died a few days earlier.

These games will now be played on 22 January.

Division One leaders Friendship came a cropper in the Middleton Ladies League. They were beaten 6-1 by Hare and Hounds.

Second placed Apple and Pear also lost. Old Cock beat them by the odd game in seven to put themselves in the title race.

Second Division leaders Hebers A made it 10 wins in 11 matches when they beat Brunswick 6-1.

Nook, in second place, made it nine in 10 by beating third-placed Friendship B 5-2.
