Colts overcome all the odds

30/11/2006

MIDDLETON Colts under 15s reached the semi-finals of the League Cup with a 3-2 away win over AFC Stanley.

They travelled with only 11 players available and knew they would have a battle on their hands.

The deadlock was broken on 20 minutes when Callum Heap ran through to beat the offside trap and lob the keeper.

Stanley levelled just before half time.

Colts regained the lead after the break with a fine goal from Richard Fitton. But it looked bad for them when they went down to 10 men due to an injury to central defender Matt Mott.

Stanley knocked in a penalty to level again and in the last 15 minutes both teams had chances to snatch a winner.

It came when fullback Sam Vines delivered a pin-point pass to Tom Currie who took the ball on to score.

Player of the match for Colts was George Walker.
