MIDDLETON Conservative Club leapfrogged Higher Blackley Con Club to the top of the Middleton Thursday League by beating their rivals 6-1.

Bobby Brown's 17-darter was the highlight.

Title chasing Railway and Linnet and Cotton Tree also lost.

Linnet went down 5-2 to Duke of Wellington, while Tree lost 4-3 at the White House despite a 14-darter from Wayne Rigby.

Billy McCreery and Billy Lucas starred for the winners.

Frank Scott struck a nifty 17-arrow leg in Wilton's 5-2 win over Lancashire Fold. Wilton also gained their first win in the gallon contest.

The top four teams in the Middleton Men's Monday League all won last week.

Leaders Gardners (Grimshaw Lane) beat Railway 5-2, and that was also the score by which Gardeners (Sandy Lane) beat Old Cock, and Joiners defeated Railway and Linnet.

Woodman, who occupy second place, beat Carters by the odd game in seven.

Old Cock and Joiners are joint top of the crib contest with 19 points from 10 matches.

Friendship A have an eight-point lead in Division One of the Middleton Ladies League following their 6-1 win over Millbeck.

While they were celebrating, Apple and Pear were losing 4-3 to Hare and Hounds and Old Cock were going down 5-2 to Woodside.

Hebers A hold a four-point advantage over second placed Nook in Division Two.

Switching to the log-end Manchester board, Railway and Linnet's Steve Shaw struck a brilliant 10-dart round the board in his team's 8-4 Failsworth Premier KO Cup defeat at the hands of Bricklayers.

It might have been even better for Shaw, as he took three darts to hit the bull.

The legendary Cliff Lazarenko will be in Heywood next Thursday night, taking on challengers at the Heywood Hotel, start 8.30pm.
