WINNING TEAM... The Manchester team which won the Archie Preston Trophy, beating Lymm in the final at Prestwich.
Success all round for Hopwood aces
26/10/2006
SCHOOLGIRL Kelly Tidy and Elaine Clark are the toast of Manchester Golf Club after pulling off a remarkable win in the Daily Mail foursomes.
Fourteen-year-old Kelly had to turn down the chance to play in the England under 18 girls' team to partner Elaine in the finals at Dalmahoy where they beat the Worthing team two up.
The Hopwood pair, who both play off two, had beaten a mother and daughter pairing from East Bierley two and one in a semi-final.
Kelly, who plays for Lancashire, was watched by her grandfather Dennis Coward and she leapt into his arms after the victory.
The Tidy-Clark success was not the only celebration at Manchester.
For the second time in four years the mixed foursomes team won the Manchester and District Alliance's Archie Preston Trophy. They beat Lymm in the final at Prestwich.
But the club's men's team was pipped by Chorley in the final of the Dunham Forest Trophy.
