Winning start for Alkrington

ALKRINGTON launched their second season in Division Two of the Lancashire and Cheshire League last Saturday when they hosted league newcomers Deans Youth from Salford.

In comparison to last season Alkrington made a flying start. After only seven minutes Mike Marshall put them ahead when he tapped home from close range after a mistake by the Deans' keeper.

A little more than two minutes later Adam Ralphson, now back and match fit after recovering from a bad injury, lobbed home from just inside the area.

Dynamos were then guilty of taking their foot off the gas and allowing their opponents back into the match.

Deans pulled one back 20 minutes before the interval when a speculative shot deflected off a defender and looped over the head of keeper Steve Johnstone.

A defensive mistake 10 minutes later led to an equaliser.

The second half saw some pretty equal exchanges, but Dynamos always looked the team more likely to score.

Midway through the half James Turley threaded the ball through to Darren Hoolickin who fired Dynamos into a 3 - 2 lead.
