ALSO on the bill that boasts Joe Calzaghe and Matthew Hall at the MEN will be Thomas McDonagh who will be having his first contest since losing in his world championship contest with champion Wayne Alexander.

Hughes said: "Thomas should now be a world champion. He was so near, but he knows that is not good enough.

"I still have every confidence and faith in Thomas. You believe me, he will do it."

McDonagh faces an eight-round contest against big-punching Martin Conception.

The Blackley boxer said: "I know a lot of people doubt me after my last fight. I can understand that. But I intend to show them how wrong they are. Just watch me go at the MEN."

Tony Doherty, who also fights out of the Collyhurst and Moston camp, will meet top prospect Kell Brook from Sheffield.

Brook is unbeaten in 12 pro contests, and promoter Warren believes this lad to be his next big star.

But all at the local gym feel Doherty will come out on top.
