Stanworth leads push for victory

SCOTT Stanworth was star of the show as Middleton recorded an impressive away win over Monton and Weaste in the Central Lancashire League on Saturday.

He scored an unbeaten 75 as the Moonrakers won by three wickets after chasing a target of 203.

Monton took first knock and lost professional Craig Simpson for two when he was caught behind by Stanworth off the bowling of Arno Jacobs.

But Jason Maddox and Nick Kruger then threatened a big score for Monton until both went to catches by Jacobs off Luke Muller's bowling, Maddox for 51 and Kruger for 70.

Maz Saeed, David Hamilton and Chris Costa managed only 14 runs between them, but Matty Cross boosted he total with 27.

Muller finished with five for 59 and John Punchard had figures of three for 67.

Simpson took four of the Middleton wickets to fall, but his effort was in vain as Stanworth steered Middleton home.

Stanworth's 50 came off 96 balls in 122 minutes. In all his knock lasted 179 minutes and 133 deliveries.

Arno Jacobs scored 39, Luke Muller made 20, and Jimmy Ryan chipped in with 19.

Middleton seconds made it a double on the day.

They scored 184 for eight in reply to Monton's 181 all out.
