Thornham lads shine in cup final

THORNHAM under 13s had to settle for being runners-up when they played host to Glossop in the Lees Lancashire County League's under 13s cup final.

It was the club's first junior final since the formation of the league 10 years ago.

Glossop set a stiff target of 130 from their 20 overs despite some terrific bowling by Chris Heywood, Liam Grey, Liam Tomlinson, Andrew Canavan, Scott Howarth, Adam Hayden and Danny Berry.

Niall Rutledge was outstanding behind the sticks.

There were some great knocks in Thornham's reply, including the 30 not out from captain Matthew Micklethwaite and 21 from Niall Rutledge.

But the team finshed on 79 for six.

Thornham were presented with their medals by the league president who complimented them on their play.
