Muller and Doyle merciless in win over Milnrow

20/ 7/2006

MIDDLETON capitalised on some bad luck for opponents Milnrow in Sunday's CLL match at Towncroft.

The home team looked up against it as Milnrow made an electric start, racing to 183 for two off the first 25 overs having won the toss and elected to bat.

However, Middleton stuck to their task and got the breakthrough they were looking for when, with 15 overs to go, Milnrow professional Craig Philipson chopped a ball from Muller onto his wicket. From that point on Muller and Doyle squeezed the Milnrow tail and the runs dried up.

Beaten the day before by Rochdale in the semi-final of the Wood Cup, Milnrow's confidence sapped in the heat.

They also suffered the blow of losing Doggett to a back injury without facing a ball. As a result, they were left with almost five overs unused.

Middleton's chances were further boosted when Mark Wakefield withdrew from the action.

Nevertheless, Jon Storey put in a great effort to send down 17 overs in tough conditions, but Stanworth first and then Jacobs played very controlled innings and Middleton went on to clinch the win.

Middleton did well to bring this back. Some solid batting from Stanworth & the pro gave middleton a good chance. Middleton would have slowed the run rate right down if Daniel Royle would have bowled. Middleton need to sort there team out. Out with the old & in with the new.
