Moonrakers are robbed by rain

A STRIKING rainbow framed Milnrow's Ladyhouse ground on Sunday evening but there was no pot of gold at the end for either team as rain brought the match against Middleton to a premature end.

Middleton must have felt the jackpot was in their grasp. The visitors had posted a challenging total of 207 for seven from their 42 overs and Milnrow were hanging on at 75 for eight when the weather intervened.

Milnrow, needing less than five an over, adopted a lemming-like approach to their batting and threw their wickets away with gay abandon.

It seemed they were still in Twenty20 mode as their ambition outstripped their ability, and they returned to the pavilion in quick-time.

Only overseas amateur Sean Powell (17) and Justin Fletcher (18) showed any application until Fletcher also caught the bug and was stumped shaking hands with the bowler.

Australian professional Craig Philipson was bowled for a duck shouldering arms to Middleton pro Arno Jacobs, while Steven Hall, Danny Pawson, Andy Butler and Jon Storey perished going for big shots. Middleton probably couldn't believe their eyes.

Jacobs with three for 29 from nine overs, Ricky Valentine with two for 21 from six, and Nigel Doyle with two for eight from six did the damage for the visitors.

Middleton, in stark contrast to their hosts, were willing to graft for their runs, having been put in by Milnrow.

They lost Steve Davey (13) to a juggling catch in the slips by Philipson with the score on 22, and Scott Stanworth (45) rode his luck as he put on 68 runs with Jacobs. Stanworth was caught behind on 90 and Jacobs (35) was brilliantly caught and bowled by Philipson 14 runs later.

There was no sign of a collapse, however, as Luke Muller (43) and Jimmy Ryan (34) put on 84 runs. Both perished as Powell and Lee Storey were rewarded for some good bowling, albeit without much luck, but by then the damage had been done.

Lee Storey, with three for 37 from nine overs, and Powell with three for 72 from 15 were the pick of the Milnrow bowlers.

What you may or may not understand Rob is that like will alot of places they have a certain "click" and if you dont fit in you wont get in!!

All the players you mentioned are in that "click" so they will always be selected!!

Its a DISGRACE!!!!!!!

Middleton need to start putting some youngsters in the team as the likes of john ppunchard, jimmy ryan & gareth hughes will be ending there career soon, or we hope they will and Middleton will fall short because the youngsters will not have enough experience @ senior level.
