Alky boost promotion chances
John Gwynne27/ 4/2006
ALKRINGTON boosted their promotion challenge in the Lancashire GMC Super League on Sunday when they beat Bolton Borough 6-4.
They completed a double over Borough with the help of a top performance from Mark Holden who averaged 86.71 and hit 15 and 16 dart legs in putting his team 4-2 up. One of those winning legs included a 180.
Debutant Steve Round had given Alkrington the perfect start in taking the opening set by the odd leg in five. Steve Whitehead made it 2-0 with a straight legs win.
Bolton hit back to level, but Alkrington pulled away again with 3-0 wins from Gary Powell and Holden. Mark Smith won 3-2, and victory was assured when Paul Holden won 3-2.
Alkrington go to Radcliffe on Sunday. The following weekend they meet Halliwell at the Apple and Pear.
