Strikers find their range in cup win

ABACUS Media romped to a 4-1 win over Whalley Range in a Lancashire and Cheshire League Rhodes Cup tie at Bowlee.

Range gave the Premiership outfit a fright when they deservedly took the lead on 30 minutes after twice hitting the woodwork.

But Abacus equalised almost immediately with a well taken goal from striker Anthony Campbell.

Range came out for the second half with all guns blazing and again thundered a shot against the woodwork.

Abacus edged in front on the hour, thanks to a penalty slotted home by Nicky Bracken.

Within minutes Anthony Campbell claimed his second, then super sub Russ Ingham rounded the keeper and smashed the ball home.

Abacus travel to play Old Ashtonians on Saturday.

Media seconds went out of the Wray Cup, beaten 2-0 by Old Stoconians.

The hosts scored early. Abacus fought and battled well but were unable to break down a well organised defence.

The game remained on a knife-edge until the final minute. Abacus were caught out by a counter attack while pressing for an equaliser.
