Pear’s pairs win

MARK Holden and his son Paul won the Middleton Clubs Darts League's Christmas pairs knockout played at the Apple and Pear.

In the final they beat Woodside's Jimmy Gill and Cliff Hughes 3-0.

Gill and Hughes had beaten Eric Quinn and Dario Padron (Apple and Pear) in a semi-final.

The eventual champions overcame a challenge from Steve Service and Wayne Fontayne (Higher Blackley Con Club) in their semi.

The scrap between Gardeners and Junction for the Middleton Monday League title saw the former go half-a-point ahead of their rivals with an aggregate 8-2 defeat of Lancashire Fold. Darts contributed a 6-1 tally.

Junction had a 6-1 win on the oche against Railway and Linnet but lost 2-1 on the card table.

Carters hot-shot Tony Jones suffered his first setback in a dozen outings this season as his team was beaten 5-2 and a set by Joiners.

The Middleton Monday League will now go into hibernation until 9 January, while the Thursday League will resume on 5 January with the first round of the knockouts.
