GREENGATE Brewery on Middleton Junction was swarming with local cricket officials on Monday night to hear the official results of the Wood Cup draw.

Anxious club officials gathered to discover which team they will face in the knock out competition next summer.

Middleton-based brewery JW Lees signed another valued four-year sponsorship deal for the contest - their 25th year of sponsoring the competition, which is a record for regional sponsorship.

Free Trade Area Manager, Mark Simonds, from JW Lees said: "It is a great association to have with local amateur sports.

"We support the local teams whole-heartedly and look forward to the league every year.

"We're fully behind the competition and hope to see some great cricket."

Managing Director of JW Lees, William Lees Jones, was among many guests and representatives from the brewery who turned up to support the competition which is due to start in May next year.

The first round fixtures are: Walsden vs Radcliffe; Littleborough vs Unsworth; Oldham vs Ashton; Monton & Weaste vs Middleton; Rochdale vs Werneth; Royton vs Milnrow; Clifden vs Norden; Heywood vs Crompton.
