Cold start but Juniors fight back

Middleton Juniors 3
Northside 2

JUNIORS started badly, something which is becoming an unfortunate habit with them.

They have some talented players, and can play an attractive committed game, but when they are bad they can be very very bad.

This match, played on a cold windy Sunday at Cardinal Langley, saw Juniors up against a hard working Northside team.

Northside went ahead after being given the ball as Middleton played to the offside flag and not the whistle.

Defensive errors led to a second for Northside, and on the run of play they just about deserved it.

Dominic Heapy, playing as anchorman in midfield, was just off the mark with two thunderous shots. He kept the team together in a difficult first half.

Half time meant strong words from manager Tony McGloughlin and Juniors became a different team.

Clayton Kilroy, restored to the left side, swept down the wing to drive the ball home for Juniors' first.

Ten minutes from the end Michael Orford powered in the second, and it looked like extra time as the seconds ticked away.

A couple of minutes were left when the mercurial Middleton team struck again through Orford. Some might argue he was offside, but as the pundits say: "That's football."
