Trick is treat for winners

1/12/2005

A FIRST-HALF hat-trick by Josh Schofield secured the points for Middleton Boys under nines in their Salford City League match against Moorside.

Middleton opened the scoring after two minutes. A sweeping move led to a cross from James Cantello and Schofield volleyed home.

The lead was increased on seven minutes when Schofield turned inside his marker to score.

The game then became scrappy, with neither side threatening, but Moorside gained a lifeline when they took advantage of a sliced clearance.

Schofield claimed his third just before half time when he steered home a cross from Cantello.

Middleton looked comfortable in a poor second half, but the last few seconds were nervy after Moorside had knocked in their second. Gavin Low had to make a good save to deny Moorside an equaliser.

Jamie Wellins was player of the match for Middleton.
