Round The Boards

ANDY Slattery led the way with a 16-darter as Kings beat Railway and Linnet 6-1 in the Middleton Men's Thursday League.

Kings have a four-point lead over Boarshaw WMC who were 5-2 winners over Wilton.

Cotton Tree, who beat Tonge Bowling Club by the odd game in seven, are a further three points away in third place.

The Middleton Men's Monday League, having been hit by the news of New Inn dropping out, has now learned Archer will not be able to fulfil their fixtures.

The Archer team has disbanded following several defeats on the trot, the last of them a whitewash by Gardeners Arms.

League secretary Eugene Goan said: "It's so frustrating. It mucks up the pattern of fixtures and, of course, the league table has to be adjusted."

Last week's big match saw Apple and Pear beat Gardeners 5-2. That was also the score by which Woodman won at the Old Cock Inn.

Joiners had a perfect night. They beat Railway and Linnet 7-0 at darts and 3-0 on the crib table.

Railway and Linnet at least had a good night 24 hours later when they beat reigning Failsworth Premier Log-End champions Baldy Bobs 5-2 to move up to a challenging position.

Lancashire GMC Super League action on Sunday sees Alkrington off to Little Hulton.

Hulton have made a good start to the season with wins over Bolton, Radcliffe, and Halliwell.
