YFC race to win in derby

MANCHESTER YFC under 15s maintained their 100 per cent record in the Manchester Youth League by beating Middleton Colts B on Sunday.

They took the lead when a slick move involving Tom Whiteman and Curtis Buckley spun the ball out to Sam Freakes. His first-time pass found Barry Davies who drew in defenders then turned and hammered the ball into a bottom corner.

Five minutes before half-time Ismet Akoya latched onto a short back-pass to tap into the net despite efforts by the keeper to clear.

Manchester made it 3-0 before the break when Freakes volleyed home.

It became 4-0 following a Mark Reeves' inswinging corner to the near post. Freakes claimed the touch but Reeves said it went right in.

Middleton were awarded a penalty for handball and Nathan Mansbridge stepped up to send John Buckley the wrong way.

Manchester then stepped up a gear and Akoya was released to score their fifth.

Another inswinging cross from Reeves caused all sorts of problems. Hardicre latched onto a loose ball to strike a shot which took a deflection and fell to the feet of scorer Sam Freakes.

Barry Foster made it seven with a thunderbolt.

To make matters worse for Middleton the fresh legs of Osahon Osawe were sent on. He whipped in a cross with power and Middleton couldn't keep the ball out of the net.

With only a few minutes left Reeves rounded his marker and squared the ball to player of the match Sam Freakes for him to score.
