MARK Holden was in brilliant form when he played for Alkrington in a Lancashire GMC Super League match against Chadderton last weekend.

He averaged 88.14 and included a 10-darter (140, 180, 145 and 36 game shot) in Alkringto's 6-4 defeat.

Steve Service, Gavin Halton and Mark Smith also entered the winners' enclosure.

Alkrington entertain Darcy Lever at the Apple and Pear on Sunday, start 12.30pm.

Middleton's Joe Heywood scored one of his best ever wins when he got the better of county captain Doug Smith while playing for Oldham against St Helens.

Heywood earned the man of the match award, but his team lost 6-4.

Apple and Pear top the Middleton Men's Monday League on aggregate points after six matches, but they are only half a point clear of Junction, and a point clear of third-placed Gardeners Arms (Sandy Lane).

Apple beat Lancashire Fold 6-1, while Junction won 5-2 at Old Cock. That was the score by which Gardeners beat Carters Arms.

Aggregate points are for both darts and cards.

Kings Arms and Cotton Tree, the top two teams, meet tonight in the Middleton Men's Thursday League.

Kings have 19 points after their 7-0 win over White House. Cotton Tree, who beat Woodside 5-2, are three points behind the leaders.

Welcome top Division Two by half a point from Apple and Pear, with Oddfellows A a further half point away in third place.
