THE opening night of action in the Middleton Men's Thursday League saw reigning champions Kings Arms beat Pleasant 6-1.

They had the help of a 16-darter from Joe Heywood.

The most emphatic win came from Cotton Tree who beat Wilton 7-0, but Wilton did manage to take the gallon.

Eric Quinn struck a superb 12-darter for Apple and Pear in their Division Two win over Blackley Conservative Club, while a 15-arrow game from Kenny Fay helped Oddfellows beat Flying Horse 5-2.

Gardeners (Sandy Lane) suffered their first defeat of the season in the Middleton Monday League. They crashed 6-1 at the Joiners.

Apple and Pear are now the only unbeaten team.

But they had to pull out all the stops to beat Woodman 4-3.

Junction's Ronnie Worrall hit an 11-darter, the best so far this season, as his team beat Lancashire Fold.

There were no close matches in the Middleton Ladies League.

Division One leaders Kings A beat Hebers B 8-1. In Division Two, Kings B defeated Hebers A 7-2.
