Alkrington off to great start in darts campaign
John Gwynne6/10/2005
ALKRINGTON made a superb start to life in the Lancashire GMC Super League on Sunday.
They beat Bolton Borough 8-2 at the Apple and Pear in a Division Five clash.
Skipper Mark Holden included a 16-darter in taking the first set.
Bolton took the next, but Alkrington then went 5-1 up thanks to wins from Richard Cook, Alan Smith, Mark Smith and Phil Clarke.
Bolton's Andy Crawford won the seventh set before Kenny Kenton sealed victory for the Middleton men. Jason Green and Steve Culpin made the victory all the more emphatic.
Holden said: "It's a fantastic start for us. Many of our players are quite inexperienced at this level, and there will be tougher matches to come, but we are going to enjoy ourselves."
Alkrington next play Chadderton, away, on 23 October.
Apple and Pear were involved in a much closer affair in the Middleton Ladies League. They beat Division One rivals Jolly Carter 4-3.
That was also the score by which Black Bull won at Oddfellows and Kenyon Beat Old David.
