Alkrington ready for hat-trick bid
John Gwynne22/ 9/2005
ALKRINGTON go in search of a second and, possibly, third title this summer when the Greater Manchester Super League's five-a-side knockout and individual KO tournaments are held at Lightbowne Sports and Social Club in Moston on Sunday.
Already crowned champions of the GMSL second division in their first season in the competition, the Middleton men are hoping for a good run, at least, in both competitions.
Their skipper and main player, Mark Holden, will not be there, however. He is playing Newport in the UK Open and World Grand Prix qualifier.
Four of the five matches in the Middleton Ladies League first division ended 5-2 last week with wins for Kings Arms A, Hebers WMC, Oddfellows and Joiners. It was the score, also, by which the Hare and Hounds overcame the Woodman in the second division.
The Gardeners Arms, Sandy Lane, had reason to rejoice on Monday when they completely whitewashed the Railway and Linnet in the Middleton Men's Darts and Crib League. They won 7-0 on the oche, 3-0 on the crib and, for good measure, took the gallon challenge 2-0.
A cracking darts match saw the Joiners and Old Cock share a 3.5-3.5 tie.
