Round The Boards
A FULL house at the Cotton Tree witnessed a brilliant night of arrow flinging when the Middleton Men's Thursday League held its individual finals.
Malcolm Rowe provided an outstanding nine-dart round the board and followed with a 14-darter to go two up in the final against his Kings Arms team-mate John Wellens.
Rowe had darts to win the match but missed, and Wellens went on to win 3-2 with 13 and 15 arrow legs.
Rowe had beaten Joe Heywood, another Kings' player, in a semi-final. Wellens reached the final by beating White Hart's Joe Royle.
Apple and Pear licensee Mark Holden enjoyed a great run in the televised UK Open in Bolton.
From a field of 174 he reached the last 16 stage.
He beat top Welsh player Andrew Davies 8-0, saw off Coventry's Steve Hine 11-9, then fell to Belgian ace Erik Clarys 11-6.
Alkrington are in Greater Manchester Super League action on Sunday when they visit Chadderton. The match will be at the Hare and Hounds, Block Lane, start 12.30pm.
