Madden breaks bowlers’ hearts

16/ 6/2005

Greater Manchester League

MOSTON returned to action following the spell of poor weather and the break appeared to have worked wonders as they posted 179 for eight in their 40 overs against Swinton Lions.

Dean Wolstenholme (51) and Nathan Potts (29) shared a first wicket partnership of 80 to get Moston off to a flying start.

Despite a third ball duck for captain Mike Crump and a paltry five from Sam Brook, Moston reached their total thanks to Paul Madden who, despite two broken fingers, knocked 55. Russ Iddon chipped in with 19.

Dave Edwards struck early to remove a Swinton opener with only five on the board, but a 75-run partnership between Pete Kidd (23) and Mo Mir (53) gave Moston cause for concern.

The re-introduction of Edwards eased those fears as he took three wickets for only two runs in a devastating second spell.

New boy Dave Mannifield proved what a useful prospect he is with his first league wicket for the club.

By the time Russ Iddon was introduced to the attack the game was all but won, although Iddon showed he still has the hunger for victory by removing two batsmen without conceding a run.
