More woe for the Moonrakers

MIDDLETON are still looking for their first win of the season after going down to new leaders Werneth at The Coppice on Saturday.

They made a good start when Tom Read trapped overseas amateur Matthew Harival leg before for a duck. But you could say it was downhill all the way from then.

Darren Shadford made 43, a modest score for him this season, before going to a catch by Buckley, but pro Heino Kuhn blasted his way to a century. He completed his ton but was run out as he slipped going for a return run.

Alan Durose was also run out, for 16, but Ainsworth and Stuart Moore boosted the Werneth total with knocks into the 20s.

Sajith Fernando, on his return to The Coppice where he used to ply his trade, took one for 74 in 21 overs.

Fernando was top scorer for Middleton with 34 in what was a sorry batting story.

Steve Davey, John Punchard and Kumara went cheaply to heighten what was already an uphill task for The Moonrakers. Jimmy Ryan, Kevin Dufeu, Mark Buckley, Scott Stanworth and Anthony Graham all got into double figures but Middleton were all out for 122.

Shadford took six for 49.
