Round The Boards

KINGS Arms picked up the Middleton Men's Thursday League's knockout title by beating Pleasant (Blackley) 4.5-1.5 in the final.

The winners beat Railway and Linnet in a semi-final, while Pleasant beat Victoria to reach the big stage.

Another title went to Kings when Joe Heywood and Andy Slattery got the better of team-mates John Wellens and Steve Shaw 3-1 in the pairs final which didn't see a leg go over 15 arrows.

Wellens and Shaw had beaten another Kings pairing - Billy Conroy and Ian Slattery - in a high quality semi-final.

Heywood and Slattery won through by disposing of White Swan's Jimmy Gill and Chris Hughes.

Joe Heywood was in excellent form for Oldham in their Lancashire GMC Super League match against Lune Valley. He helped his title-chasing team to a 5-5 draw when he hit a 15-dart leg of 501.

Super League darts will come to Middleton in the summer when a team based at the Apple and Pear will represent Alkrington in the Greater Manchester Division Two.

The campaign starts on Sunday 29 May. Other teams in the six-strong division are Rochdale Borough, High Crompton, Little Hulton, Walkden, and Chadderton.
