Campbell creates record as Media run riot

21/ 4/2005

CHEADLE Hulme visited Bowlee and champions Abacus Media were in command throughout their Lancashire and Cheshire League Division Two match, hitting eight goals without reply.

Man-of-the-match Anthony Campbell opened the scoring after eight minutes following good work by Mark Stott.

Media went two up 10 minutes later when Antony Campbell netted after excellent work by his brother Michael. The striker completed his hat-trick on the half hour when he volleyed home, and just before half time he scored his fourth after a neat one-two with Nicky Bracken.

Cheadle started the second half trying to contain the champions, but their defence was at sixes and sevens when top scorer Nicky Bracken got his 33rd goal of the season to make it 5-0.

Anthony Campbell added three more goals to create a new club record for one match.

Media seconds beat St Margaret Mary's 6-2.

Liam Sweeney opened the scoring with a trademark goal. Neil Jones made it 2-0 with a great header after 20 minutes and another fine goal from Paul Marshall made it 3-0 before half time.

St Margaret Mary's, to their credit, hauled themselves back into the game with two goals early in the second half, but Media clinched it with two more goals from Liam Sweeney and another from his strike partner Simon Campbell.

Man-of-the-match Steve Purdue put in another impressive performance.
