JOE Heywood celebrates his 22nd birthday in the next few days.

But the party started last weekend at the Flowerpot pub in Oldham when he won the vital tenth set to give Oldham victory over Burnley in a Lancashire GMC Super League Premier Division match.

The Middleton lad made his debut when he helped Oldham to win the county title last season. He played for the Lancashire and Greater Manchester youth teams a few years ago and his ambition is to make it into the senior county team.

Mick Kenway who has played for Oldham for many years believes Heywood has the ability to go all the way.

He said: "He's still young for a darts player. He is improving all the time and providing he sticks at it I see no reason why he can't go far in the game."

Heywood plays for the Kings Arms team in the Middleton Men's Thursday League and he supplied a nifty 14-darter in last week's 5-2 win over White House. Team-mate John Wellens had a 15-darter.

Catholic Club, without a win in 23 matches until they beat Pleasant a couple of weeks ago, made it two in a row by beating Oddfellows B.
