Round The Boards

ALKRINGTON hot-shot Mark Holden reached the semi-finals of the prestigious St Annes Open on Sunday.

He then lost 4-3 to county player Andy Brown of St Helens who was beaten in the final by Fleetwood's Dale Newton.

Holden said: "I had a dart at tops to go through. I missed and he responded by taking out 136 and hitting a 180 in the deciding leg. But that's what darts is all about. Miss your doubles and you get punished."

A third 7-0 win in as many weeks has cemented Kings Arms' place at the top of the Middleton Men's Thursday League.

The latest came against Wilton with the help of a 14-darter from Gary Rix and a 15-arrow game from Joe Heywood.

Boarshaw bounced back from a shock 5-2 defeat against Wilton by beating Tonge Bowling Club 5-2.

Catholic Club, bottom of the table, made Cotton Tree work hard for their 4-3 win. That was the score by which Joiners and Railway and Linnet beat Victoria and Woodside WMC respectively.
