Heffron through to semi-finals

RONNIE Heffron of Boarshaw Amateur Boxing Club is through to the semi-finals of the Golden Gloves knockout.

He cruised through his quarter-final against Patrick Riley of Slough. The fight was stopped in round two after Heffron had built up a 15-0 lead.

Boarshaw coach Ben Lancaster said: "Ronnie was just too strong for the lad. There were no standing counts, but there should have been one in the first round when Ronnie caught him with a right."

Also through is Boarshaw's Grant Brown, but Jimmy Barker went out.

The semi-finals will be fought at Liverpool Olympia on Saturday 12 March.
