Schools on their marks for cross country

MORE than 300 children from primary schools throughout the borough will compete in the Middleton Harriers' cross-country championships at Hopwood Hall on Saturday 12 March.

For the second year Oldham schools will be among the 27 teams in the event which is being backed by Rochdale Council's Leisure and Recreation Department which will provide the trophies and other awards.

There will be six races, with the first starting at 10.30am. The Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Angela Coric, and Rochdale Council deputy leader Jackie Beswick will make the presentations.

Harriers' president Jack Kirk said: "The runners are very competitive, but the emphasis is on friendly rivalry and we want everyone to have an enjoyable time."
