THE Middleton Men's Thursday League reached its half way stage last week with Kings Arms out in front on 72 points from 14 matches.

Boarshaw WMC are six points behind the toppers but seven ahead of third-placed Joiners.

Steve Riley smacked an impressive 14-darter in Kings 5-2 win over Railway and Linnet.

Boarshaw WMC were beaten 5-2 by Woodside WMC, while Joiners lost by the odd game in seven to White House.

Kings also head the gallon table, but they are only a point ahead of Pleasant (Blackley).

Oddfellows strengthened their hold on Division Two of the Middleton Ladies League with a 4-3 win over Old David.

Kings A are 16 points clear of their rivals in Division One following their 6-1 win over Kings B.

Apple and Pear dished out a shock by beating third-placed Woodside A 7-0.

Several Middleton players have entered the Oldham Open which will be held at the Tara Leisure Centre, Shaw, this coming weekend.

The contest carries £800 prize money, with £250 going to the winner.

The semi-finalists will compete against Eric Bristow, John Lowe, Bob Anderson and Dennis Priestley in a world champions' challenge for additional prize money of £1,500. The challenge will be on Sunday, start 4pm, and admission is £4.
