WAYNE Fontana was on song last week for the White Hart, hitting a superb 13-darter in helping his side beat the Oddfellows A 6-1 in the Middleton Men's Thursday League.

It equals the best throw of the season, struck by Steve Shaw of the Kings Arms a few weeks ago.

The Kings beat Catholic Club 6-1 in a top-versus-bottom affair and stand four points ahead of joint-second Joiners and Boarshaw Working Men's Club. Joiners won 5-2 at the Wilton, while the Boarshaw boys beat the Victoria by the odd game in seven.

The surprise result of the night came in the post-match gallon league, title-chasing Cotton Tree losing to basement team Oddfellows B. The Kings went to the top of the table, too, a point ahead of the Pleasant - who had no match - after getting the better of the Catholic Club.

In the Middleton Men's Monday Darts and Crib League, Apple and Pear kept up their title challenge earlier this week with a 7-3 aggregate win against the New Inn.
