Comeback too late for Pearson
12/ 1/2005
PEARSON Rochdalians battled back for pride on Sunday afternoon, despite having the wind put up them by Liverpool side Botanic in the first half.
The Scouse outfit took full advantage of the gales blowing to chalk up an impressive lead by the break. Their first goal saw a corner blown in from the penalty spot.
Chris Ogunyode returned to Pearson side, but couldn't take advantage of a couple of chances that came his way.
For the last 20 minutes of the half Pearson made a tactical switch, defended much deeper and kept the score to 4-0 at half-time.
In the second half Botanic scored first from an early corner. But Pearson battled on and despite the conditions some good work through the middle saw Anthony O'Neill break to score.
Within five minutes Mick Kearney dummied a defender and the keeper to score a second. Two more goals in the last 15 minutes, one for Botanic and one from Pearson's Conor McEvoy, who nut-megged the keeper, saw the game conclude at 6-3.
Man of the match for Pearson was Kyle Winterbottom, pushed close by Aaron Fletcher who had a superb game in goal.
Pearson Rochdalians play Leigh RMI in the cup on Sunday at home, kick-off 1.30pm.
