Pairs kings retain title
21/12/2004
BILLY Curry from the Kings Arms, and Tom Slattery of Woodside WMC retained their Christmas Pairs title in the Middleton Men's Thursday Darts League.
They were 3-1 final winners over Railway and Linnet's father and son duo Sid and Russ Hayes.
Ian's brother and Woodside team-mate Andy Slattery, and Kings' Joe Heywood were beaten in the semi-finals by the champions. The Hayes pairing overcame Kings' Steve Shaw and John Wellens. Both semis were won by the odd leg in three.
There were a couple of close encounters in the Middleton Ladies League, none more so than at Woodside WMC where the club's A team beat the B team 4-3. Karen Denning won the decider.
The race for Second Division honours could not be closer.
White Hart and Oddfellows are locked together on 80 points at the top following Hart's 4-3 win over the Nook and Oddfellows 5-2 success against Kenyon. Third-placed Millbeck A went down 4-3 to Old Cock.
