THE battle between the only two unbeaten teams in the Middleton Men's Thursday League saw Kings Arms beat the Pleasant from Blackley 6-1 to take a comfortable lead at the top of the table.

The match was highlighted by a commendable 13-darter from Kings' Kenny Richardson.

The Pleasant are one of four teams with three wins from four games. Woodside WMC, beaten by the Kings on the opening night of the season, recorded their third success in a row by beating the Catholic Club 6-1; Boarshaw WMC got the better of winless Oddfellows B 5-2; and Railway and Linnet won at the Victoria by the odd leg in seven.

The most convincing victory came at the Oddfellows A, where the Joiners ran out 7-0 winners.

• MICHELLE Edmonds lit up the match between her Jolly Carter team and visitors Hebers WMC in the Middleton Ladies League with a 140. It contributed to the 4-3 win enjoyed by her side, the score by which the Joiners won at the Kings Arms B.

• SOME players from Middleton will be interested to know of a weekly knockout being staged in Heywood on Wednesday nights over the next few weeks.

Indeed, the opening week of nine - eight qualifiers and a finals night - was played last week, with victory going to Darren Latham.

Six more opportunities are available to qualify for the finals and a tilt at a £500 winner's prize. The event is at the Kings Head, register at 8.15pm, and entry is only £3.
