Moston go crump and suffer disaster at the double

MOSTON Cricket Club suffered a double blow last weekend. They let victory slip through their fingers on Saturday and were knocked out of the Winkley-Wood Challenge Cup on Sunday.
On Saturday, Moston skipper Mike Crump had only himself to blame as his team lost by 40 runs to Bury-based Jinnah.
A fantastic opening spell of bowling from Dave Edwards (10 overs for only six runs) had Jinnah struggling from early on, and at the drinks break they had reached only 35 off 20 overs.
When wicket-keeper Crump dropped Mo Ashad before he had scored little did he realise what a costly mistake it would prove.
Ashad went on to hit 73 before being caught on the boundary as Jinnah finished on 173 for eight off their 40 overs.
The Moston reply began briskly, with Wolstenholme knocking 25 in three overs before being bowled.
As is now usual, the rest of the Moston top order failed to perform with any satisfaction and it was left to Glen Collinge to punish the Jinnah attack.
With overs running out, Collinge perished four short of his maiden half century and Moston were 133 all out.
On Sunday, Moston, holders of the Winkley-Wood Challenge Cup, were sent crashing out of the competition by Talbot.
In a match reduced to 25 overs a side, Moston finished 122 all out. Collinge (26) and Wolstenholme (23) top scored.
Talbot opener Zahad decided to force the pace from the off.
He reached his half-century in only eight overs but was eventually caught in the deep for 58, with the total on 72.
In order to force the result, Moston continued to bowl throughout the rain storms.
Despite two wickets from Sam Brook, Moston never recovered from the opening onslaught and Talbot reached the required target with four overs to spare.
The coming weekend marks the half-way point of the season and Moston travel to play Vertex in Didsbury.
